Payroll Implementation Specialist - Level II

Reports to: Payroll Implementation Manager


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Implementation Specialist - Level II to join our growing team. This role is crucial to ensuring smooth onboarding and successful implementation of payroll services for our clients. As the company expands its offerings, this position will help meet increasing demand while maintaining an exceptional customer experience.


**This position is eligible as a fully remote role for individuals 50 miles outside our Clinton Township, MI office.  Candidates who live within a 50-mile radius will be expected to follow the OTC hybrid work model.  Please see the required travel for this role below.**


Responsibilities


  • Manage full-cycle payroll implementations, from kickoff through first payroll run, including client onboarding, data mapping, tax setup, and system configuration.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales during the scoping process to understand client needs and ensure smooth transitions.
  • Work with Support to resolve escalated configuration and tax-related issues during onboarding and beyond.
  • Support our Specialists with payroll expertise.
  • Educate and assist internal teams and clients during year-end, particularly around manual adjustments, corrections, and tax filings.
  • Proactively identify and document process improvements to help scale implementation operations.
  • Provide backup support for active implementations to ensure consistent quality and timelines during peak periods or team member absences.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving the payroll product and overall client success.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with clients and internal teams to manage expectations and project progress.
  • Remote Capacity only - Up to 10% of annual travel, including but not limited to semi-annual visits to the OnTheClock Clinton Township location.  


Required Qualifications


  • 2+ years of experience in payroll implementation.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax compliance, and related systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first mindset.


Preferred Skills & Qualifications


  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, support, and product teams is preferred.
  • Comfortable with data analysis and reporting; proficiency with Excel or similar tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work within a smaller, agile team environment is highly preferred.
