The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of our in-house payroll operations. You’ll be embedded in our Finance team (with a dotted line to HR), managing end-to-end UK payroll and supporting additional European regions in time. Your work will ensure everything runs smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with all relevant regulations.
What You’ll Do
Run and manage monthly UK payroll processes, including salary changes, bonuses, pensions, starters and leavers
Act as the internal expert for payroll queries from employees and managers
Keep payroll records up to date and ensure HMRC and pension compliance
Maintain and enhance our in-house payroll system and tooling
Administer employee benefits such as pensions and ensure we are fully compliant with regulators
Own payroll reporting, journal reconciliations, and data analysis for Finance
Monitor UK and European payroll legislation changes to ensure the business is continuously compliant
What You’ll Bring
Solid experience running UK payroll end-to-end, ideally in a lead or standalone capacity
Deep understanding of UK payroll, tax, and pension regulations
High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
Confident working within finance systems (e.g. HRIS, accounting software, in-house tools)
Proactive, collaborative approach—comfortable driving process improvements in a fast-paced team. Able to step into other areas of finance if needed.
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with Xero for payroll/accounting
Exposure to a start-up or scale-up environment
CIPP qualification (or working towards it)
