Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for our Australian employee population. This role reports to Global Payroll Shared Services and is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing in accordance with Australian legislation. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Australian payroll, including superannuation, PAYG withholding, Single Touch Payroll (STP), and Fair Work compliance. Experience with Workday and payroll system implementations is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for Australia, ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, ATO regulations, and other relevant legislation. 
  • Administer payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, leave entitlements, salary packaging, and benefits. 
  • Ensure accurate calculation and remittance of PAYG withholding, superannuation contributions, and other statutory obligations. 
  • Oversee the accurate and timely submission of Single Touch Payroll (STP) reports to the ATO. 
  • Coordinate payroll reporting of equity and ESPP transactions, including stock options exercises, restricted stock vesting and semiannual ESPP purchase periods. 
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports – including Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) annual reporting, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), and other compliance-related filings. 
  • Support the implementation and optimisation of payroll systems, including Workday Payroll integrations and transitions from legacy platforms. 
  • Maintain and reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and ensure accurate posting in Workday Financial. 
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll operations and data integrity. 
  • Act as the subject matter expert for Australian payroll, providing guidance on legislative changes and best practices. 
  • Handle payroll audits and ensure readiness for internal and external reviews. 
  • Collaborate with other payroll teams to align processes, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the Global Payroll function. 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across time zones and collaborate with global teams. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency in Workday Payroll and Financial, with experience in system implementations or upgrades. 
  • Certification in Australian Payroll (e.g., Certificate IV in Payroll Administration or similar) is a plus. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing Australian payroll, with strong knowledge of local legislation and compliance requirements.
