We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll & HRIS Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of our payroll and HR processing across multiple states and/or countries. This individual will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll runs, maintaining compliance with tax regulations and labor laws, managing vendor relationships, and collaborating cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and Legal teams. 

The ideal candidate will bring experience in payroll systems, process improvement, and employee service, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. This candidate will also need to support HR functions as well as system maintenance which are outside of traditional payroll responsibilities.This work is Remote, but must be in the Eastern or Central Standard Time zone

What You’ll Do:  

Payroll Operations 

  • Manage and process company payroll on a regular schedule (weekly, semi-monthly, etc.), ensuring accuracy and compliance. 

  • Oversee all payroll activities including the review of wage calculation, bonuses, commissions, benefits deductions, garnishments, and taxes. 

  • Serve as the main point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees and internal stakeholders. 

  • Support HR responsibilities such as hiring, onboarding, employee changes, and terminations 

Systems & Reporting 

  • Administer and maintain HR/payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paycom, etc.); implement system upgrades and troubleshoot issues. 

  • Generate payroll reports for Finance and HR, and support audits and budget planning with accurate data including maintaining the GL mapping. 

  • Ensure proper integration of payroll with timekeeping, benefits, and accounting systems. 

Compliance 

  • Stay up to date on federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations. 

  • Review tax communications, filings, W-2s, and other required filings and reports. 

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and ensure adherence to internal controls. 

Process Improvement & Leadership 

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements. 

  • Develop, document, and maintain payroll procedures and training materials. 

  • May supervise or mentor other HR personnel and coordinate outsourced providers. 

 

 

What You Bring:  

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll, HR, or finance/accounting 

  • Experience managing TriNet payroll and HR functions a plus 

  • Experience administering payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Workday, Paycom) and HRIS/payroll integrations.  

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations, tax laws, and wage/hour rules. 

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines. 

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excel expert – comfortable with building and auditing large reports with lookups, pivot tables, and match functions. 

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred but not required. Accounting or financial analysis experience is acceptable as well. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours per day). 

  • Ability to occasionally lift office supplies and equipment, up to 15 pounds. 

  • Occasional travel for team events, training, or company meetings.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling sensitive employee data.

Compensation:  

Pay for this role is competitive and based on experience, with additional factors like territory requirements, qualifications, and performance taken into account. The typical pay range for this position is $140,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually, with potential for bonuses and incentives plus benefits. Final compensation is determined on a case-by-case basis and considers a variety of factors, including experience level, skillset, and market conditions.
